1.JOB PURPOSE:
TO attain the basic required skill level for a Utility Operator on the Pot Line through on-the-job training. To assist the Assistant Cell Operator, Cell Operator / Cell Technician in operating reduction cells to produce molten aluminium effectively & efficiently.
2.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assists the PTM operator in changing anodes safely and to the required standard, by removing and replacing back pot shields, transferring anode reference mark, monitoring the pot voltage, activating/deactivating the anode set logic and anode dressing.
- Assists and ensures that pot beam raising operation is performed as per procedure and in a safe manner.
- Prepares the tapping hole prior to metal tapping.
- Skims the crucible to remove dross.
- Performs metal and bath sampling for quality and chemistry control purposes.
- Assists the cell operator/assistant cell operator in miscellaneous activities like housekeeping, bath tapping/pouring, material addition to pots, pot skimming and pot redressing.
- Assists in gutter and basement cleaning.
- Attends PTM (Pot Tending Machine) on-the-job training if required.
- Cleans crucible and siphon tips.
- Attends anode effects efficiently aimed at lower PFC emissions.
- Performs all other operational work activities as deemed necessary by the Shift‑Supervisor (for example: cleans pot breaker tips, deck plates and bumper plates).
- Ensures pot shields and doors are properly placed and closed to reduce HF emissions.
- Maintains 5S Standards and general housekeeping.
- Takes part in spotting and reporting hazards in order to reduce the incident frequency rate and aims for zero LTI.

3.QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Minimum Qualifications: Secondary School Certificate.
- Minimum Experience: One year of experience in heavy industry is preferable.
- Physical fitness and be prepared to work on one of the shift schedules operating within the Potrooms.
- Learning skills in order to understand the Aluminium Smelting Process.
- English communication skills.
- Complete the training and acquire the skills to operate the following (depending upon the availability and departmental requirements): Pot Tending Machines, Anode Beam Raising Equipment and general Potroom tools, vehicles or equipment in use on the assigned Potline.
