Job description

We are seeking an experienced Terrestrial Ecologist to support a major marine infrastructure project based in Dubai. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing monitoring and managing the impact of the project on terrestrial flora and fauna particularly in coastal and adjacent habitats. This role is critical to ensure environmental compliance and the long-term sustainability of local ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ecological surveys and habitat assessments in terrestrial environments particularly in areas adjacent to marine construction zones.
  • Identify and document terrestrial flora and fauna with a focus on species of conservation concern.
  • Prepare and review ecological impact assessments (EIA) and mitigation strategies in accordance with UAE regulatory frameworks.
  • Provide expert input on biodiversity conservation plans, habitat restoration and species management strategies.
  • Monitor ecological impacts throughout the project lifecycle and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Liaise with governmental authorities, environmental consultants and project teams to align ecological considerations with project goals.
  • Contribute to environmental permit applications and project documentation.
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities as needed.
Qualifications
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Bachelors degree (minimum 10 years of relevant experience) or
    • Masters degree (minimum 7 years of relevant experience) or
    • PhD (minimum 3 years of relevant experience)
    • Specializations may include: Wildlife Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Terrestrial Ecology or related environmental sciences.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of UAE-based professional experience in terrestrial ecology.
    • Strong fieldwork experience particularly in arid and coastal ecosystems.
    • Demonstrated experience in ecological impact assessments and habitat surveys.
Additional Information
  • Prior experience working on marine-adjacent or coastal infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of UAE native and invasive terrestrial species.
  • Membership in recognized ecological or environmental professional bodies.
