Role Purpose

In your first year you will lead the design and delivery of robust low-latency backend systems improve our architectural decision-making frameworks and establish scalable development patterns that enable high-velocity team execution.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

• Lead the architecture and backend design of mission-critical Fintech platforms ensuring systems are performant scalable and secure.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers front-end engineers and DevOps to align architectural goals with business needs.
• Manage the adoption of backend best practices code quality standards and design patterns across multiple squads.
• Drive technology selection architectural reviews and refactoring strategies across our core financial services backend.
• Mentor backend engineers and conduct architectural workshops to upskill teams on Java and scalable design principles.
• Own key architectural decisions in domains such as payments risk scoring onboarding and ledger systems.

Qualifications & Attributes

We're seeking someone who embodies the following:

Education

Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science Software Engineering or a related field.

Experience

• 8 years of backend engineering experience with at least 3 years in an architectural or staff engineer role.
• Fintech industry experience ideally having built or scaled platforms for digital payments neobanking lending or similar domains.

Technical Skills

Must-haves

• Deep expertise in Java.
• Proven experience in designing distributed systems and high-throughput APIs.
• Solid understanding and hands‑on experience with microservices architecture including deployment and management.
• Experience with event‑driven architecture (Kafka or similar) and RDBMS (PostgreSQL preferred).
• Skilled in both synchronous and asynchronous communication models for scalable system design.
• Hands‑on experience with containerization (Docker) Kubernetes and cluster‑based deployments for high availability.
• Proficient in implementing CI/CD pipelines to automate build test and deployment processes.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms particularly AWS.
• Well‑versed in security standards including PCI DSS Zero Trust architecture and IAM frameworks.
• Experienced in integrating with core banking platforms and third‑party fintech services such as KYC and AML.
• Adept at creating and maintaining technical and architectural documentation including UML diagrams.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Clean Architecture.
• Exposure to observability stacks (Prometheus Grafana ELK).
