Job Description

Job Overview:

The Senior Structural Drafter completes various Structural Drafting assignments as needed and can complete work with limited supervision. They are an informal resource for colleagues with less Structural Drafting experience. The Senior Structural Drafter has developed proficiency in various analytical processes or procedures for assigned tasks. They directly impact the quality of the work of the team.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and oversee a team of structural drafters to ensure accurate and timely completion of all fabrication projects within the EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation) industry
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and client requirements, providing guidance and expertise to the team for the preparation of detailed structural design drawings
  • Collaborate with the engineering team, project managers, and other stakeholders to understand project objectives, scope, and priorities, ensuring all drafting activities align with project requirements
  • Conduct regular quality control checks to verify compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness of all structural design and layout drawings
  • Mentor and coach team members, providing technical guidance, feedback, and training to develop their skills and enhance their productivity
  • Coordinate with other drafting disciplines and multidisciplinary teams to resolve design conflicts and ensure effective integration of various systems
  • Utilize industry-standard computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, TEKLA, Navisworks, and Revit, to create and modify accurate 3D models, assemblies, shop drawings, and BOM for fabrication and installation
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to support materials requisition, vendor selection, and construction activities, providing necessary documentation and as-built drawings
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and advancements in structural design, and implement them to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the drafting process
  • Implement Prefabrication, Erection methods, and DC reports information into shop drawing
  • Implement design change in the shop drawing based on approved SQ, TQ, SI, and ARN
  • Maintain single discipline and inter-discipline check drawings and filing
  • Report errors/suggest a resolution for the same
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Minimum High School Diploma, with either a Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering or a related field and 3 years of experience; or a minimum of 7 years of experience working as a Structural Drafter or similar role within the EPCI industry, preferably with hands‑on experience supervising a team
  • Strong proficiency in 3D (Tekla) & 2D (AutoCAD/Microstation) structural drafting, modeling, and drawing extraction
  • Extensive knowledge of industry codes and standards for structural design, such as API, AISC, ACI, and ASCE
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and project requirements accurately
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members, clients, and stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve design conflicts and issues
  • Detail‑oriented approach and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high‑quality standards
  • Familiarity with project management and scheduling tools to effectively allocate resources and manage workflow
