Job description

The resident engineer will be responsible for overseeing the progress of construction projects ensuring that they are completed on time within budget and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. This role will require extensive on‑site presence and coordination with various stakeholders during the entire construction process.

This role will be assigned in Abu Dhabi.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Delivery
  • Supervise and coordinate all aspects of construction activities on‑site including material delivery, contractor schedules, labor resources and equipment usage.
  • Review the design proposals, work program, material submittals, method statements, shop drawings, payments, variation orders and claims, etc.
  • Effectively manage the site supervision staff during construction and ensure the works are conducted according to the contract specifications.
  • Ensure all contractors, subcontractors and workers adhere to project schedules, quality and safety standards.
  • Work closely with designers and architects to ensure accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Regularly review progress and status reports and advise on adjustments and changes to meet project requirements.
  • Provide updates to the client and project team on project status, costs and progress and request for approvals or change orders as necessary.
  • Collaborate with project contractors to recommend innovative solutions that will improve the quality of the project as well as save the project cost.
  • Prepare and submit periodic project reports summarizing progress, schedules and goals to the management team.
  • Collaborate with other resident engineers on other projects in coordinating schedules, resources and finding solutions.
  • Ensure monitoring of the quality of materials and workmanship installed, operated and maintained.
  • Maintain the resident engineer’s daily diary and reports by subordinates; liaise with client project management, contractor and authorities for resolution of project issues when required.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Familiarity with conditions of contract and quality assurance.
  • Liaise with client coordination with governmental organizations and other consultants/contractors.
  • Consistently adhere to and enforce internal company processes and policies such as business and contracting rules.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and negotiating skills.
  • Work in a manner to ensure personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.
  • Collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Work in conjunction with engineers to solve project design problems performing basic design calculations as required.
  • Conduct technical feasibility studies and site investigations.
  • Liaison with teams: client, contractor, supervision team, engineering to facilitate completion of tasks and projects.
  • Good communicator.
Client Service Management
  • Internal and external client infrastructure liaison.
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting and positive relationships.
  • Experience in utility diversions and management.
  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
  • Complete all work in line with Stantec core values and in accordance with the Stantec quality systems and project quality procedures.
  • Design for safety, i.e., construction design management.
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate will have a bachelor degree in civil engineering with 12 years of experience in drainage, water network and miscellaneous projects.
  • Candidate must have PMP certification and be proficient in Primavera and MS Office.
  • Candidate must have previous experience dealing with construction managers, CS site teams, client contractors, and suppliers.
  • Experience with SWS Infra & water recycle projects advantages.
