About the Role – Category Manager (MEP) / Procurement Manager
The Category Manager – MEP / Procurement Manager is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing and executing category-level procurement strategies for all MEP packages across multiple projects. This role focuses on cost optimization, supplier performance, risk management, and standardization, while ensuring alignment with project requirements, budgets, and timelines.
You will act as the subject-matter expert for MEP procurement, leading high-value negotiations, managing key suppliers, and driving continuous improvement across the procurement function.
Key Responsibilities
Category & Strategy Management
- Develop and implement category strategies for MEP systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, firefighting, ELV, and specialist systems
- Establish preferred supplier frameworks, rate contracts, and long-term agreements
- Drive standardization, value engineering, and lifecycle cost optimization initiatives
- Analyze market trends, supplier capabilities, and cost drivers within the MEP category
Procurement & Commercial Leadership
- Oversee end-to-end procurement for major MEP packages across multiple projects
- Lead RFQs/RFPs, technical and commercial evaluations, and high-value negotiations
- Finalize vendor selection, contracts, payment terms, warranties, and SLAs
- Ensure procurement activities align with project timelines, budgets, and cash flow plans
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Partner closely with MEP engineers, project managers, design consultants, QS, and finance teams
- Manage relationships with key suppliers, OEMs, subcontractors, and system integrators
- Monitor supplier performance, delivery, quality, and compliance metrics
Governance & Team Leadership
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, governance frameworks, and audit requirements
- Lead, mentor, and develop procurement engineers and category team members
- Prepare procurement dashboards, reports, and strategic updates for senior management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred) or related discipline
- 12–18+ years of experience in MEP procurement, category management, or strategic sourcing
- Proven experience managing high-value MEP packages for large-scale construction projects
- Strong exposure to UAE / GCC MEP markets and vendor ecosystems
Required Skills & Competencies
- Deep expertise in MEP systems, specifications, and procurement best practices
- Strong commercial acumen with proven contract negotiation and cost management skills
- Experience in category strategy development and supplier consolidation
- Familiarity with ERP / procurement systems (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, or similar)
- Excellent stakeholder management and leadership capabilities
- Analytical mindset with a focus on cost optimization, risk mitigation, and value creation
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
