A leading academic research center in Abu Dhabi is seeking independent fellows to work in diverse research fields in astrophysics and space science. Successful candidates will enhance collaborations within the team and utilize advanced supercomputing resources. The position lasts two years, with a possible extension, offering a competitive salary and various benefits. Candidates should possess a PhD in a relevant discipline and be eager to contribute to multi-disciplinary research connections. Applications are encouraged before November 30, 2025.
The Center for Astrophysics and Space Science (CASS) at NYUAD is looking to appoint new independent fellows working in one (or more) of the following research fields:
The center currently consists of eight faculty members, more than 25 researchers, and PhD students. It provides a unique opportunity to investigate fundamental questions in astrophysics, astroparticle physics, and planetary physics from several perspectives. Members collaborate on data collection and analysis, theoretical and numerical studies from planets to galaxies, and cohesively link these areas.
We expect successful applicants to work towards improving the collaborations and connections among the different research areas. Fellows will utilize resources such as the 70,000‑core Infiniband Cluster (Jubail), several GPU‑based clusters, and other supercomputing facilities through the CASS network. Fellows will also have guaranteed observing time on the Green Bank Telescope, Very Long Baseline Array, Las Cumbres Observatory, and participation in SDSS‑V.
Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or a closely related field. The appointment is for an initial period of two years, with a likelihood of extension to a total of three years. CASS fellows will have dedicated funds for traveling, computing, publications, and related expenses. The preferred starting date is Fall 2026.
Applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, publication list, a brief statement of research interests (ideally 2–3 pages), transcript, and three letters of recommendation. Applicants are strongly encouraged to outline how they plan to help create connections between the different research areas of CASS. Applications received before November 30 2025 will receive full consideration; positions will remain open until filled. For questions, contact Prof. Andrea V. Macciò (Center director).
The terms of employment include a very competitive salary, housing allowance, medical insurance, educational subsidies for children, and other benefits. Please note that the UAE does not levy income tax.
NYUAD is committed to upholding a culture of non‑discrimination, anti‑harassment, dignity and mutual respect; providing equal access and opportunity; and fostering academic excellence in learning, research and teaching.
