The Officer – AOCC Airside is responsible for stand, gate, and tow tactical planning and allocation, ad-hoc slot approvals, landing permissions, invoicing for cash operators, and data reconciliation. The role focuses initially on Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) operations and the transition to the Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC), with potential future extension to other ADAC airports.
The Airport Management Centre (AMC) is the central hub for:
- Operations Planning: Integrated operational planning and performance analysis for all ADAC airports to deliver target Levels of Service (LOS).
- Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC): Leading day-of-operations within a 24/7 control room co-located with ground handlers, control authorities, airlines, emergency services, and others.
- Operations Data & Analytics: Managing operational data quality and developing AMC reporting, analytics, and tools.
The Officer – AOCC Airside is expected to maintain competency and licenses to operate, demonstrate Abu Dhabi Airports values and behaviors, and work shift duties in the AMC control room, including being on-call as needed.
Responsibilities
Tactical Planning & Allocation – Stands, Gates, and Towing
- Plan, allocate, and monitor aircraft parking stands to achieve service levels safely and efficiently.
- Monitor aircraft flow and On-Time Performance (OTP) to maintain airside capacity.
- Respond to unplanned operational changes and minimize passenger disruption.
- Advise Manager-AOCC Airside on operational developments impacting airside.
- Monitor IT systems for faults and take corrective action.
- Liaise with AOCC teams, Air Traffic Control, airlines, and authorities to minimize operational disruption.
- Collaborate with Airport Coordination Limited (ACL) for 24-hour slot management and ad-hoc schedule changes.
Ad-Hoc Slot Approvals, Landing Permissions, and Invoicing
- Assess and approve ad-hoc slot requests within capacity and resources.
- Update slots within 24 hours or during ACL out-of-office hours.
- Coordinate with Terminal Operations for capacity and manpower confirmation.
- Issue landing permissions for ad-hoc flights per SOPs.
- Generate invoices for cash flights upon departure.
Communications for Situational Awareness and Collaborative Decision-Making
- Support Manager-AOCC Airside in coordinating with ATC, GCAA, airlines, and operators.
- Ensure communications relate to day-of operations or SLA performance.
Monitor Aircraft Flow – Optimize Capacity and Service Delivery
- Proactively monitor departures, arrivals, and resources to mitigate conflicts.
- Assess feasibility of requested allocation changes and inform stakeholders.
- Monitor delays, update flight schedules, and liaise with airlines to adjust as needed.
Data Quality & Reporting
- Maintain accurate airline and flight data in AMS and ensure data quality compliance.
- Keep concise operations logs, handover materials, and shift reports for analysis and improvement.
Requirements and Skills
Qualifications / Education:
- Ideally a university degree (equivalent operational management experience considered).
Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of relevant airport, airline, or ground handling industry management experience.
- Personal: Problem-solving; ability to justify/record decisions under pressure.
- Interpersonal: Clear communication; ability to influence stakeholders.
- Technical:
- Knowledge of airside operations, aircraft turnaround, and airport operational resources.
- Familiarity with emergency procedures, incident management, and regulatory requirements (IATA, ICAO, GCAA, ACI).
- Operational knowledge of airport systems (e.g., SITA AMS), airside and ATC systems, METAR/TAF, slot allocation, and airport compliance documentation.
- Fluent in English (ICAO Level 4 or Global English Level 7).
- Intermediate MS Office skills (Excel, Word).
Ideal Skills:
- ICAO Annex 14, GCAA CAR Part IX & XI knowledge.
- ACI Airside and Apron Safety Handbook knowledge.
- Airport control center systems and operational planning expertise.
- Understanding of A-CDM concepts.
