What you will do

The Industrial Refrigeration Service & Commissioning Specialist supports the iREF Middle East and Africa projects team by assisting with testing and commissioning activities and service

  • Including but are not limited to: reviewing PID SLD and MCC Drawings and documentation provided by supplier or internal design team conducting site survey participating in technical meeting with customer or consultant and explain testing strategy
  • Conduct service and maintenance activities on IR Ammonia single and double stage systems adhering to operational philosophies.
  • Commission service and troubleshoot refrigeration systems and gas compressor units with a preference for experience with Sabroe Gram and Frick units.
  • Perform testing commissioning and service on Danfoss valves and control systems commonly used in JCI industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Overhaul reciprocating screw compressors preferably with experience on SABROE GRAM Frick and YORK compressors.
  • Possess refrigeration knowledge and experience in controls and instrumentation including an understanding of relay-based controls PLCs DCS systems and compressor unit controllers such as Unisab Gramatic and Quantum.
  • Familiarity with process cooling equipment commonly used in petrochemical industries including systems utilizing propane Propylene and R134a refrigerants.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of the hazards associated with ammonia propane and H2S gases.
  • Handle report and communicate effectively with food and beverage and PRS customers.
  • Installation Oversight: Supervise and coordinate the installation process of refrigeration equipment to ensure it aligns with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Pre-Commissioning Checks: Conduct thorough inspections of the installed systems to confirm that all components (compressors condensers evaporators etc.) are properly installed and free from defects.
  • System Testing: Perform performance testing of refrigeration systems including checking for leaks verifying capacity and ensuring operational parameters are met under various conditions.
  • Calibration: Adjust and calibrate control systems sensors and instrumentation to ensure accurate monitoring and effective system control.
  • Operational Training: Provide training to operational personnel on the safe and efficient operation of the refrigeration systems ensuring they understand maintenance procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation including test results commissioning reports and as-built drawings to facilitate future maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve any issues or inefficiencies during the commissioning phase working closely with other engineers and technicians to implement solutions.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all systems are compliant with safety regulations and industry standards such as ASHRAE and EPA guidelines pertaining to refrigerants and safety protocols.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze system performance data post-commissioning and recommend improvements or adjustments to enhance energy efficiency and operational reliability.
How you will do it

The industrial refrigeration commissioning & service specialist can effectively execute his/her responsibilities by:

  • Documentation Analysis: Review design documents such as specifications schematics and layouts meticulously to confirm that necessary factors such as thermal load calculations and refrigeration cycle designs are incorporated.
  • Coordination Meetings: Organize and participate in design review meetings with stakeholders to address potential issues and clarify design intentions ensuring all parties are on the same page.
  • Integration Checks: Ensure that the refrigeration system integrates well with other systems (HVAC electrical plumbing) within the facility verifying flow paths and controls.
  • On-Site Supervision: Actively supervise the installation team providing guidance on best practices and ensuring that the installation capabilities meet specified protocols.
  • Acceptance Testing: Inspect and sign off on the completion of each installation phase ensuring standards are met before moving on to subsequent steps.
  • Coordination with Other Trades: Work closely with electrical mechanical and plumbing teams to ensure timely and efficient collaboration without hindering progress.
  • Initial System Inspections: Conduct a full walk-through of the installed equipment checking alignment installation quality and compliance to design.
  • Checklists and Protocols: Develop specific checklists tailored to the project to ensure no critical components or steps are overlooked.
  • Documentation of Findings: Record any issues discrepancies or non-compliance findings ensuring these are communicated and rectified before proceeding.
  • Dry Runs and Pressure Tests: Conduct dry runs of the system testing for integrity under varying pressures to ensure no leaks exist before charging the system with refrigerants.
  • Load Testing: Simulate typical operational loads to assess the systems performance and check that it meets the required capacity.
  • Emergency Procedures Testing: Test emergency shutdown procedures and safety locks to ensure compliance and operational preparedness.
  • Precision Instruments Setup: Utilize advanced precision measuring tools such as thermocouples pressure gauges and flow meters to gather baseline operational data.
  • Control Calibration Processes: Implement structured processes for temperature and pressure set-point calibrations to ensure controls work accurately throughout system operation.
  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor system performance post-calibration to identify any fluctuations or anomalies.
  • Customized Training Modules: Develop and implement training programs tailored to the specific refrigeration system and its components to enhance operator understanding.
  • Safety Drills: Conduct regular drills to practice emergency response scenarios ensuring that all personnel are prepared for potential issues.
  • User Manuals and Resources: Create easily accessible user manuals troubleshooting guides and service schedules that operators can reference for day-to-day operations.
  • Comprehensive Commissioning Files: Create a commissioning file that contains all relevant documentation including installation photos specifications calibration records and performance test results.
  • Updates to Technical Documentation: Ensure all changes throughout the commissioning process are reflected in updated technical documents and drawings.
  • Format Standardization: Follow company standards for naming conventions formats and documentation processes to ensure consistency and ease of understanding.
  • Structured Problem Solving: Employ systematic troubleshooting methodologies such as the 5 Whys or fishbone diagrams to identify and resolve root causes of detected issues.
  • Data Recording and Trend Analysis: Maintain logs of system performance and historical data to analyze trends over time aiding in predictive maintenance initiatives and future troubleshooting efforts.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work collaboratively with design engineers and technicians to address complex issues requiring interdisciplinary expertise.
  • Regulatory Alignment: Keep informed about current refrigeration regulations (e.g. EPA OSHA local codes) and ensure all activities comply with the latest standards.
  • Safety Guidelines Development: Create safety guidelines specific to the refrigeration systems in place emphasizing proper refrigerant handling and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) usage.
  • Accident Reporting Protocols: Establish protocols for reporting accidents or near misses fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the team.
