Role Overview

The Head of Compliance will establish and oversee a robust compliance framework for Aqovia’s regional fintech and digital asset operations in the UAE and wider GCC. This role ensures adherence to local and international regulatory requirements, spanning KYC/AML, Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) standards, Electronic Money Institution (EMI) regulations, and Market in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) alignment.

The successful candidate will act as a senior liaison with regulatory authorities such as VARA, ADGM FSRA, DIFC DFSA, and CBUAE, ensuring that Aqovia’s regional operations meet the highest compliance, governance, and risk management standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a comprehensive compliance framework in line with UAE and GCC fintech and crypto-asset regulations (VARA, ADGM FSRA, DIFC DFSA, CBUAE).
  • Oversee AML/CFT programs, including ongoing monitoring, suspicious transaction reporting, and regulatory audits.
  • Advise leadership on compliance implications for new digital asset products, tokenisation initiatives, and AI/data-driven fintech solutions.
  • Ensure alignment with MiCA, FATF, and other international best practices to support interoperability across jurisdictions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with UAE and GCC regulators and financial intelligence units, managing regulatory submissions, licensing, and inspections.
  • Collaborate with the MLRO and operational teams to maintain a strong culture of compliance, ethical conduct, and transparent governance.
  • Monitor regulatory developments across the GCC and international markets, providing strategic insights to future‑proof Aqovia’s operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or Compliance, professional certifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS, CCO) are strongly preferred.
  • 7–10+ years of compliance leadership experience within fintech, crypto-assets, or regulated financial services, ideally in the UAE or GCC.
  • Deep understanding of VARA, ADGM FSRA, DIFC DFSA, and CBUAE frameworks, with working knowledge of MiCA, EMI, and FATF guidelines.
  • Proven track record in building compliance functions and managing regulatory relationships in a dynamic and high-growth environment.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at senior levels and across jurisdictions.
