Overview

The Graduate Civil Engineer (Design – Roads & Infrastructure) will begin their career by working closely with senior designers and technical specialists to learn the fundamentals of infrastructure design from the ground up. With no prior experience required, the graduate will be guided through structured training, mentoring, and hands‑on project involvement across road geometry, utilities, drainage, earthworks, and related infrastructure elements. They will start by supporting others—assisting with basic design tasks, learning software tools, and developing familiarity with standards and procedures—while progressively building the confidence, competence, and technical capability needed to take on increasing levels of responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Support senior engineers in the preparation of design drawings, reports, models, and calculations for roads, utilities, drainage systems, and wider infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with reviewing technical data, design criteria, and project specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Learn to use industry‑standard design software (e.g., Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar) through supervised tasks such as creating alignments, profiles, cross‑sections, and basic layouts.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary coordination by helping compile inputs from structures, traffic, utilities, and environmental teams.
  • Contribute to design documentation by assisting in preparing drafts of design reports, quantity estimates, and supporting schedules.
  • Observe design review meetings, client discussions, and internal technical workshops to understand decision‑making processes and gain exposure to best practices in infrastructure design.
  • Gradually take on more independent tasks—such as developing portions of road layouts, drainage networks, or utility corridors—as competence and technical understanding increase.
