Job Description
  • Assist the Head of the Geotechnical Division in the design and evaluation of tenders and project designs.
  • Perform analysis of geotechnical data, interpret soil and rock parameters, and prepare Geotechnical Interpretative Reports (GIR).
  • Carry out geotechnical design for foundations, retaining structures, and slope stability using both hand calculations and advanced geotechnical software (e.g., beam‑on‑springs or finite element analysis, depending on project complexity).
  • Design ground investigations and prepare specifications, BOQs, and laboratory testing programs.
  • Actively supervise field and laboratory work to ensure compliance with project requirements and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with ground improvement and groundwater dewatering specialists.
  • Provide technical reviews of external studies, subcontractor submittals, and third‑party designs.
  • Ensure geotechnical designs prioritize safety and comply with HSE standards.
  • Ensure geotechnical designs comply with applicable Middle East standards (e.g., Eurocode, AASHTO, BS, ASTM) and project specifications.
  • Conduct regular site visits during the construction phase to monitor groundworks, assess geotechnical conditions, and ensure compliance with design intent and specifications.
  • Interact with clients and other project stakeholders to communicate geotechnical findings, recommendations, and constraints.
  • Escalate complex technical issues or project risks to the Head of the Geotechnical Division for resolution or strategic input.
  • Develop and supervise R&D initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of geotechnical practices.
  • Weekly / Monthly Jobs:
    • Attend technical meetings with the tendering department and consultants.
    • Deliver technical reports and memoranda to support tender and construction teams.
    • Conduct technical reviews and validations of internal and external designs.
    • Participate in the department’s knowledge‑sharing initiatives.
    • Update and improve internal design standards and methodologies (e.g., developing spreadsheets to automate calculations).
    • Commit to continuous self‑development through regular reading of geotechnical literature, technical journals, industry magazines, and relevant publications to stay up to date with current research, evolving best practices, and emerging technologies in geotechnical engineering.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a specialization in Soil Mechanics.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering, including design and site work, preferably with major construction companies or consultancies.
  • Required Skills:
    • Advanced geotechnical modeling (e.g., PLAXIS 2D and 3D, GeoStudio, L‑Pile, GRLWEAP, etc.).
    • Parametric design and automation for geotechnics (e.g., Grasshopper, Python).
