Job summary

A global professional services firm in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to manage cost estimating activities for major projects. The ideal candidate will possess a BSc in Civil or Quantity Surveying, along with 3-5 years of relevant experience, particularly in large-scale construction or infrastructure projects. Qualifications

Job description
Overview

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Cost Estimator who will be responsible for developing, managing and/or executing all estimating activities for a programme of works.

Responsibilities
  • Order of Cost Estimates / Cost Models / Cost Plans for:
  • Feasibility purposes at inception
  • Planning stage
  • Procurement stage
  • Third Party estimate reviews during the Design stage (15% 30% 60% 90% 100%)
  • Pre-Tender estimates to forecast the most probable tender price based on published tender information
  • Undertake three point estimates for the pricing of risk
  • Data analysis of rates and maintenance of an estimating database
  • You may also be required to undertake discrete cost estimating for the following (typically carried out by the Design Consultant or a Third Party):
  • Cost planning at each design stage milestone (15% 30% 60% 90% 100%)
  • Bills of Quantities preparation for tendering purposes
  • Design cost checks at key pinch points during each design stage to ensure the developing design is achievable within budgetary constraints
  • Design option cost appraisals to assist the decision making process in the selection of most appropriate and cost effective construction technology
  • Benchmarking studies to assess the cost effectiveness of proposals with current market benchmarks
  • Change management cost estimates to assess the impact on cost of proposed changes / variations to the scope of the design
  • Value engineering cost estimates to assess the significance of potential opportunities to reduce cost while maintaining the functionality of the design
  • Operation and maintenance cost estimates to inform the choice of products incorporated in the design
  • Review of star rates submitted by Design Consultants or Contractors during the construction phase
Requirements
  • BSc in Civil or Quantity Surveying/Estimating or related subject or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years post graduate Estimating experience
  • Strong knowledge of pricing specifications commercial & special conditions of contracts
  • Demonstrable experience of large-scale construction and / or infrastructure projects such as rail utilities highways aviation oil & gas
  • Excellent analytical as well as verbal reasoning and written communication skills
  • Previous experience in the Middle East is required
