Job Description

Job Purpose

To evaluate, analyze, and assess retail credit applications in line with the organization’s credit policies and risk appetite. The Retail Credit Assessor ensures sound credit decisions are made while maintaining high-quality customer service. That position is overlooking both the conventional business and digital initiatives in line with the organizational strategy.

Key Result Areas
  • Review and analyze credit applications from retail clients, including personal loans, mortgage loans, car loans, and credit cards or any other retail asset product.
  • Evaluate applicants’ creditworthiness based on financial statements, credit reports, and repayment history.
  • Ensure all credit decisions comply with bank policies, regulatory guidelines, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain adherence to risk management frameworks and elevate exceptions appropriately.
  • Approve, decline, or recommend credit applications within delegated authority limits.
  • Provide clear and concise justifications for decisions.
  • Liaise with internal teams, including sales and operations, to gather additional information or clarify documentation.
  • Communicate credit decisions and rationale to stakeholders promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of credit applications, decisions, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare regular reports on credit assessments, trends, and portfolio performance.
  • Identify potential risks in credit applications and recommend mitigating strategies.
  • Stay informed about market trends and regulatory changes that may impact retail lending.
  • Provide exceptional service to customers by ensuring timely and professional handling of credit assessments.
  • Address customer queries and concerns related to credit applications.
  • Work closely with sales stakeholders for implementing sales requirements and strategy in line with the organizational risk appetite.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in financial institutions is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of credit assessment processes and retail lending products.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate financial data and identify risks.
  • Knowledge of credit scoring models and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, credit analysis systems).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in retail credit assessment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local regulatory and compliance standards in credit and lending.
  • Certification in credit analysis or risk management (preferred).
