Job summary

A well-established Emirati construction company is seeking a Contract Engineer to lead contractual, commercial, and claims activities for EHV Substation projects across the UAE. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in contract administration, strong knowledge of EPC contracts, and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Proficiency in English is required, with Arabic being a plus. This role offers a chance to work on significant projects and manage complex contractual obligations.

Qualifications

Job description

Leverage your technical leadership and join a well-established and renowned Emirati construction company, recognized for delivering complex power and energy infrastructure projects across the UAE and the wider GCC region.

As a Contract Engineer - Electrical Substation Projects, you will manage and support all contractual, commercial, and claims-related activities for EHV Substations (400/220/132 kV), Overhead Transmission Line (OHL) works, and Underground Cable (UGC) projects up to 400 kV. The role ensures proper administration of contract terms, change control, documentation, and risk mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Accountabilities
  • Review and interpret contract agreements, technical specifications, and project conditions (FIDIC or client-specific).
  • Monitor contractual obligations and ensure compliance with project requirements and commercial procedures.
  • Prepare, review, and manage contractual correspondence with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Support preparation of claims, including Extension of Time (EOT), cost claims, and disruption analysis with proper documentation.
  • Evaluate and process variation orders (VOs), change requests, and additional scope items.
  • Coordinate with planning, cost control, engineering, and procurement teams to validate contract impacts.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and finalizing subcontract agreements and supplier contracts.
  • Maintain comprehensive contract records, logs, and documentation for audits and dispute resolution.
  • Identify potential risks and advise management on contractual exposures and mitigation measures.
  • Support tendering teams by reviewing commercial conditions, terms, and deliverables.
  • Attend progress, contractual, and coordination meetings and provide input on contract matters.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering / Contracts / Quantity Surveying or Construction Law.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in contract administration for:
    • Substation projects (400/220/132 kV)
    • OHL transmission line projects (up to 400 kV)
    • Underground cable projects (up to 400 kV)
  • Strong understanding of EPC contracts, FIDIC conditions, and utility requirements.
  • Experience with UAE/GCC utility clients such as TRANSCO, DEWA, ADDC, SEC, KAHRAMAA is highly preferred.
  • Familiar with engineering deliverables, project schedules, and cost structures.
  • Good knowledge of variations, claims procedures, and dispute resolution.
  • Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
