Responsibilities

Provides medical services to patients to diagnose and treat diseases according to approved procedures as part of an integrated program of curative and preventive services.

  • Manages established Oncology patients with common medical ailments other than oncological problems.
  • Conducts out patient consultations in the clinic and follow up on medical problems as needed.
  • Ensures better documentation of all patients visiting Medical Oncology Department for OP consultation/Chemotherapy/admissions.
  • Provide care for patient and effectively communicates with them and their families clarifying any doubts during the entire course of treatment, from diagnosis to recovery of in patients and out patients.
  • Takes care of patients undergoing chemotherapy.
  • Schedules chemotherapy cycles in coordination with the patient.
  • Carry out activities related to Tumour Board.
  • Work with physicians and other medical staff to evaluate the prognosis of the illness.
  • Responsible for overseeing proper adherence to infection control practices in the department.
  • Ensures proper preparation, transport, and administration of chemotherapy medications.
  • Ensures proper collection, storage and disposal of medical and chemotherapy waste in the department.
  • Liaises with other allied specialties for timely and efficient patient care delivery.
  • Organises Cancer support groups (self-help/discussion) to facilitate patient to patient interaction.
  • Counsels and prepares the patient for acceptance and further management.
  • Liaises with external healthcare facility on behalf of patients for any investigations/treatment/opinion.
  • Maintains KPIs related to Medical Oncology Department.
  • To develop Medical Oncology manual with Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines as in coordination with the Quality Department.
  • Admits patients and completes all aspects of Medical records as required.
  • Attends CME’s and updates self on knowledge regarding latest Medical Oncology practises.
  • Develop knowledge of the evidence-based management of cancer patients treated within the unit.
  • Get exposed to clinical research and be competent in managing patients within clinical research protocols.
  • Examine and talk to patients to diagnose their medical conditions.
  • Make notes, both as a record of treatment and for referral.
  • Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable local regulations and requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining professional quality standards and recommending the improvement of such standards to meet those of the JCI, DOH.
  • Monitoring the quality of medical care provided to patients hospitalized.
  • Reviews death cases with internists and other physicians.
  • Conducts the periodic health program for company executives.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Internal medicine or Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or its equivalent).
  • At least five (5) years of practice as an Oncologist as a licensed specialist.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
  • Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
  • Current licensure in country of origin and with DOH license to practice Internal Medicine in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families.
