This is an opportunity to lead a Professional Services team (also known as Field Engineering) that helps customers understand and implement Canonical\'s open source solutions in public clouds and in data centers. The team works across cloud offerings from Ubuntu to virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and implementations of open source solutions such as MLops platforms and data platforms. As Canonical expands into new industries, we design and develop new open source solutions to meet customer needs.
We believe that Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers who can troubleshoot technical issues and engage in technical presales conversations with customers. They contribute to project delivery but focus more on shaping the team\'s direction, focus, and delivery. We invest in growing management skills and training engineers who are interested in soft skills to become managers.
Our goal is to make open source easier, more reliable, and more secure for deployment and development, aiming to provide \'most software to most companies\'. Our engineers are selected globally for brilliance and motivation to advance open source. Our engineering managers help teams achieve more than they realise and feel proud of the results.
The Field Engineering team designs private and public cloud solutions fitting workload needs, with a portfolio including on-premise solutions such as Openstack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and solutions deployable on-premises or in public clouds such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, and more. The team deploys, tests, and hands over solutions to support or managed services after projects and participates in presales conversations to provide technical guidance during sales.
Location: This role will be home based, managing a team in your time zone.
We consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide. We revisit compensation annually (and more often for graduates and associates) to ensure we recognise outstanding performance. In addition to base pay, we offer a performance-driven annual bonus. We provide all team members with additional benefits, which reflect our values and ideals. We balance our programs to meet local needs and ensure fairness globally.
