Job summary

A healthcare organization in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Nursing/Midwifery Assistant to support patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include assisting in daily living activities, recording patient observations, and responding to emergencies. Candidates must have a Diploma/Bachelor of Science in Nursing and at least 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in critical care or homecare settings. A valid Basic Life Support card is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in ICU or Critical Care.
  • Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Arabic is a plus.

Job description
Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse / Registered Midwife, contribute to the overall planning and delivery of nursing/midwifery care for patients ensuring a patient‑centered approach to care.

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse/ Registered Midwife, assist in the activities of daily living for patients in accordance with the patient care plan e.g. distribution of patient meals and assisting patients with hygiene needs.

Maintain a high standard of nursing/midwifery care for patients, working within evidence-based guidelines and unit specific competencies.

Demonstrate service excellence and act as a patient advocate to support the patients’ dignity and rights at all times.

Ensure the Registered Nurse/ Registered Midwife is informed of vital sign observations and care provided for patients and document appropriately.

Observe and report changes in the patient’s condition and reactions to different aspects of care to a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife immediately.

Respond to emergencies according to the organization’s policies and procedures.

Facilitate post discharge clinic visits and/or tests as required including scheduling follow‑up and referral appointments.

Help arrange patient transportation as required.

Maintain flow of documents for scanning if needed.

Provide direct patient care according to the therapeutic plan and individual patient needs as directed by the patient care plan under supervision of a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife.

Provide appropriate information to assist the Registered Nurse/ Registered Midwife, in the preparation and maintenance of an effective patient care plan.

Record in the patient’s official record a detailed report of care given which reflects the therapeutic plan and specific aspects of the patient care plan under direction of Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife.

Reinforce instructions given to the patient by the physician and Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife, and refer new needs for instruction to the Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife.

Initiate emergency assistance as per policies and procedures and perform Basic Life Support as per regulatory requirements and scope.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife, and within the scope of practice.

Ask questions when in doubt for clarification by the Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife.

Escalate to and seek expert advice from colleagues when unable to or not competent to undertake required care.

Assist in carrying out business continuity plans by maintaining essential nursing tasks during emergencies, support nursing teams in ensuring patient safety and care, and help uphold the operational flow under challenging conditions.

Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications

Essential: The post holder must

• Holds a Diploma/Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution in their home country.

• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, including recent assignment in ICU, Critical Care, long‑term care unit, or equivalent experience within Homecare settings in the same cluster.

• Have an appropriate license to work as an assistant nurse/assistant midwife in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualification and experience these mandates.

• Manage their own professional licensure.

• Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.

• Be willing to work across departments when necessary.

• Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).

DESIRABLE: The post holder should have:

• Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter‑professional team.

• Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.

• Be able to communicate effectively in Arabic.
