Assistant Librarian – Aquila School
Overview
A vibrant primary school committed to ‘amazing learning’ seeks an experienced assistant librarian to promote a love of reading, run an efficient library and support classroom reading initiatives. All staff and volunteers must uphold the safeguarding and welfare of children, adhere to the professional code of conduct, and contribute to a welcoming school community.

Core Purposes
- Promote a love of reading and keep the library well stocked, well managed and organised.
- Actively support teaching of reading and daily school running.
Key Duties
- Engage children to enjoy reading.
- Manage library operations including issuance, stock control and cataloguing.
- Support the accelerated reader programme.
- Ensure library is organised, comfortable and welcoming.
- Order books and promote authors and genres.
- Read aloud to groups and promote authors and genres.
- Contribute to wider school life with positive attitude.
- Organise and promote events such as author visits, literature festival and book fairs.
- Available for primary CAS nights, early mornings and occasional weekend work.
- Carry out any tasks required by the school or regional office to facilitate smooth day‑to‑day running of the school.
Person Specification
- Essential:
- Qualification in Library Science or similar.
- Genuine interest in children’s literature.
- Ability to inspire children to love reading.
- Ability to read stories aloud.
- Computer literate.
- Absolute belief in the school vision.
- Kind, happy and friendly persona.
- Organised.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Desirable:
- Experience of a similar role.
- Experience of working in school with children.
- Ability to speak Arabic.
Hours of Work
8:00‑13:00 Monday‑Thursday, 8:00‑12:00 Friday with occasional evening and weekend work. Available for up to 5 days per year during school holidays.
