Job summary

R-2 Contractors, INC is seeking an executive to lead the Utility-Scale Trenching Division. Gilbert, AZ or Prineville, OR, with about 25% travel to nationwide sites. The role oversees all trenching operations, crews, and underground conduit installation, driving safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction.

Expect a salary of $180k–$250k DOE with opportunities to shape a premier division. The incumbent will build leadership, manage budgets and schedules, and partner with executive teams to deliver

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of heavy civil or underground utility construction experience.
• Proven leadership of multiple trenching crews and large-scale operations.
• Strong knowledge of trenching, conduit installation, bedding, and restoration.
• Experience with Tesmec and Vermeer trenchers and related equipment.
• Ability to manage budgets, scheduling, and resources.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for trenching operations across multiple projects.
• Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of field leaders.
• Oversee single-pass mechanical laying, cable lay box operations, and backfilling.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors for execution.
• Partner with PMs and leadership to ensure on-time project delivery.
• Drive safety, quality, and continuous improvement across the division.
• Develop future leaders through coaching and succession planning.
• Maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and stakeholders.
