Job summary

R-2 Contractors is seeking an accomplished and visionary Utility-Scale Trenching Division Manager to lead and grow our Trenching Division. Location Gilbert, AZ or Prineville, OR with approx. 25% travel; salary $180k-$250k DOE.

This executive-level role partners with Operations leadership to drive operational excellence, mentor leaders, and strengthen customer relationships, ensuring safe, productive trenching and high-quality installations across the United States.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of heavy civil or underground utility construction experience, including utility-scale projects.
• Proven experience leading multiple trenching crews and large-scale operations.
• Strong knowledge of high-production trenching, conduit installation, bedding, and backfilling.
• Experience operating trenching equipment such as Tesmec and Vermeer.
• Ability to plan resources, scheduling, and budgeting for multiple projects.
• Demonstrated safety leadership and ability to develop future leaders.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for trenching operations across multiple projects.
• Mentor and develop Superintendents, Foremen, Equipment Operators, and field leaders.
• Lead high-production trenching and underground conduit installation activities.
• Plan manpower, equipment, and materials to support project execution.
• Coordinate resources and sequencing to maximize efficiency.
• Ensure safety, quality, and adherence to project specifications.
