Job summary

R-2 Contractors, Inc. is seeking an accomplished Utility-Scale Trenching Division Manager to lead and grow our Trenching Division in Gilbert, AZ or Prineville, OR. This executive role oversees all trenching operations, including production trenching, single-pass mechanical laying, cable lay box operations, and underground conduit installation across the United States.

Travel about 25% monthly is required. Salary ranges from $180k to $250k DOE, with a strong focus on developing leaders,

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of heavy civil or underground utility construction experience, including utility-scale projects.
• Proven experience leading multiple trenching crews and large-scale underground operations.
• Strong knowledge of high-production trenching, conduit installation, backfilling, and restoration practices.
• Experience operating Tesmec trenchers, Vermeer trenchers, rock saws, and cable lay box systems.
• Knowledge of GPS grade control, production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Strong financial acumen with budgets and project performance.
• Ability to travel as required to support projects, customers, and operations.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record; pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for all trenching operations across projects.
• Build and mentor a high-performing team of field leaders.
• Oversee trenching, mechanical laying, and conduit installation activities.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors for project execution.
• Plan resources and production sequencing to maximize efficiency.
• Ensure safety, quality, and compliance with project specs.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and executive leadership for delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational performance.
