Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to boost academic success, attendance, and behavior in school settings. You plan and monitor progress, collaborating with teachers on in‑class support and targeted interventions.

Ample training is provided at start of year; you will work with partner teachers and school staff, with a focus on 1:1 and small-group student guidance and engaging classroom environments.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps program

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math activities by student level
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Foster interpersonal skills through learning, practice, reflection and repetition
• Collaborate with teachers to collect and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
• Support extended day and virtual programming for student engagement and growth
• Assist in recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior
