Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as entry-level, full-time student success coaches in local schools, supporting students across grade levels with academics, attendance, and behavior. You will work with teachers to plan activities, monitor progress, and create a positive classroom environment.

Training is provided (2–4 weeks), with ongoing collaboration and opportunities to advance through AmeriCorps benefits and community impact initiatives.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Develop interpersonal skills through learning activities, reflection and repetition
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor progress and data in City Year’s system
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space with teachers
• Support extended day and virtual programming before, during, and after school
• Recognize and celebrate student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior

Education
