Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels, supporting academic success, attendance, and positive behaviors. The role includes planning progress, collaborating with teachers, and delivering in-class and after-school support as part of a nationwide AmeriCorps program.

Training is provided (2–4 weeks) with ongoing collaboration among teachers and staff, and a bi-weekly living stipend is offered under City Year benefits.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and assist with classroom instruction
• Create engaging, safe, and healthy classroom spaces in collaboration with teachers
• Support after-school and virtual programming including enrichment and leadership development
• Record and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to drive student engagement and achievement
