Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps is seeking entry-level AmeriCorps members to coach and mentor students in elementary, middle, and/or high schools. You will support academics, attendance, and behavior while planning progress checks and working with teachers on classroom activities.

Training is provided (2–4 weeks) at year start, with ongoing collaboration from partner teachers and school staff. City Year benefits and a bi-weekly living stipend accompany the service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident status required.
• Commitment to completing a City Year AmeriCorps term.
• Able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching and mentoring for identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills through varied activities and monitor progress.
• Create and implement a behavior management system.
• Support student interpersonal skills using proven learning strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, and analyze student progress data.
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programming for students before, during, and after school.
• Help recognize student growth through events or programs.
