Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to improve academic success, attendance and behavior. You plan and monitor individual progress and work with teachers on in-class instruction and student support.

Training is provided (2–4 weeks); you work with partner teachers and campus staff, supporting both academic coaching and school-wide initiatives to boost student engagement and achievement.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (special conditions apply)
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math activities tailored to each student
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress and data
• Support engagement through extended day and after-school programs
• Help create engaging, safe classroom spaces with teachers
