Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as entry-level, paid, full-time mentors supporting students across grade levels. You will coach students toward academic success, improve attendance, and help develop positive school behaviors, working with teachers on in-class support and small-group activities.

2–4 weeks of training are provided. You will collaborate with teachers and staff to monitor progress, plan interventions, and participate in data reviews to inform student growth.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; eligible to work in the U.S.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)
• Complete a background check

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math activities and encourage assignment completion
• Create and implement a behavior management plan
• Foster interpersonal skills and reflective practice
• Collaborate with teachers to track student progress in City Year data system
• Support whole-school initiatives and student engagement programs
