Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary, middle, and/or high schools to help them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and foster positive behaviors. You will plan and monitor individual progress and work with teachers on in-class instruction and student assistance.

We provide 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year and ongoing collaboration with partner teachers and school staff.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (Authorization to work in the U.S. is not sufficient)
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to support academic success and positive behaviors
• Plan and monitor student progress and collaborate with teachers on in-class instruction and support
• Support and implement a behavior management system and student engagement initiatives
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to collect and analyze student progress data
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space in partnership with the teacher
• Assist with extended day, virtual programming, and school-based events to promote student growth
