Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels, helping them achieve academic success and improve attendance. You will plan and monitor progress, supporting teachers with in-class instruction and student assistance.

Training is provided for 2–4 weeks at the start of the year, and you will work with partner teachers and school staff every step of the way to foster a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; 2–4 weeks of training provided.
• Ability to work with students and teachers in classroom settings.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students to help them earn academic success.
• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement behavior management strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress and data entry.
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with teachers.
• Support extended day and virtual programming for students before, during and after school.
• Assist in recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior.
