Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end bank systems, from cloud infrastructure to data platforms and operational tooling. You will work in a small, AI-native team with exposure to leadership to launch deposit products and card issuing.

The role emphasizes ownership, speed, and regulatory diligence. You'll drive AI-enabled development, maintain canary and runbooks, and manage vendor relationships while ensuring audit-ready documentation.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with ownership end-to-end through launch and operations.
• Comfortable in ambiguity and able to move fast while balancing engineering judgment.
• Bias toward simplicity in a small, lean engineering culture with high standards.
• Hungry to leverage AI to drive outcomes using AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows.
• Strong systems thinking across public cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), IaC (Terraform), and cloud data platforms (Snowflake).
• Regulated-environment experience in banking/payments/healthcare or similar, with examiner-facing documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and own incident response for core banking surfaces.
• Set and improve code review and design standards; raise examiner-readable documentation.
• Ship AI-first initiatives; leverage AI tools to enhance code, reviews, runbooks, and operations.
• Own vendor relationships: integration, operations, escalation, and audits.
• Build for examiners: collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit, and document decisions.
• Own operational posture: monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and reliability.
