Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end bank systems, from cloud Infra to data workflows and audit-ready documentation.

You’ll work in a small, AI-native team shaping the bank’s core infrastructure, with exposure to senior leadership and cross-functional partners in compliance, risk, and legal. The role emphasizes ownership, fast execution, and scalable product delivery.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with ownership end-to-end through launch and operations.
• Comfortable in ambiguity and able to move fast while balancing engineering judgment.
• Bias toward simplicity in a lean, high-bar engineering culture.
• Hungry to leverage AI to drive outcomes using AI-assisted development tools.
• Strong systems thinking across cloud infra, data platforms, and IaC.
• Experience communicating with executives, risk, compliance, and non-engineering stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and run incident response for core bank surfaces.
• Set and improve code review and design standards, raising team effectiveness.
• Ship AI-first features; use agentic workflows to boost code quality and velocity.
• Own third-party vendor relationships and integrations with the bank's tech stack.
• Document decisions, designs, and runbooks for examiner and audit readiness.
• Maintain operational posture with monitoring, runbooks, and reliable, auditable systems.
• Communicate technical strategy clearly to non-engineering stakeholders and wider engineers.
• Mentor peers and lead by example as the team grows.
