Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join a small, AI-native team responsible for banking infrastructure, data platform, and operations that support the bank’s deposit product, loan originations, and card issuing.

You’ll own critical bank systems end-to-end, influence a lean engineering culture, and push for AI-enabled delivery while managing vendor relationships and regulatory alignment with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with ownership end-to-end through launch and operations.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity, move fast, and balance speed with engineering judgment.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows.
• Strong understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, IaC, and data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and perform incident response for core banking surfaces.
• Set and raise coding and design standards; mentor teammates and improve examiner-readable documentation.
• Ship AI-first capabilities and leverage AI tools to enhance code quality, velocity, and reliability.
• Own vendor relationships for third-party banking integrations and ongoing operations.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit to embed regulatory alignment from day one.
• Maintain operational posture with monitoring, runbooks, and audit-ready practices.
• Communicate technical strategy clearly to executives, compliance, risk, and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Help grow talent as the team scales by mentoring and leading by example.
