Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end bank systems within a small, AI-native team. You will shape core infrastructure, data platforms, and vendor integrations while balancing speed, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

You'll work with senior engineers and leaders to launch the bank's deposit product, drive loan originations, and bring card issuing online. This is a rare, startup-like build inside Affirm with high impact and ownership.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering with end-to-end ownership
• Ability to navigate ambiguity while shipping quickly
• Experience applying AI tools to development and operations
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and data platforms
• Experience in regulated environments (banking/payments)
• Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate and maintain incidents
• Improve team standards, drive code quality and documentation
• Ship AI-first features and leverage agentic workflows
• Manage vendor relationships and third-party integrations
• Document decisions and runbooks for audit and examiner readiness
• Maintain operational posture with monitoring, runbooks, and reliability practices
• Communicate strategy and constraints to executives and non-engineers
• Mentor junior engineers and grow the team
