Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the AI-native engineering team that runs it. You will own the bank's core systems end-to-end, designing, building, operating, and maintaining them with exposure to leadership and bank partners.

This rare opportunity places you on a small, fast-moving team delivering deposit products, loan workflows, and card-issuing integrations while ensuring compliance, security, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with ownership through launch and ops.
• Experience in regulated environments such as banking or payments.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate and run incident response.
• Lead a small team to improve code quality, documentation, and efficiency.
• Ship AI-first features and leverage AI tools to boost velocity and quality.
• Own vendor relationships, integration, operations, and audits.
• Document decisions for examiner review and ensure regulatory alignment.
• Maintain operational posture with monitoring, runbooks, and audit readiness.
• Communicate strategy and tradeoffs to non-engineering stakeholders.
• Mentor new engineers and help grow the team.
