Job summary

Kin Insurance, a remote-first homeowners insurer, is seeking an Insurance Counsel - Forms to translate aggressive state and product expansion into filing-ready policy language. You’ll own your line (personal auto or property) and serve as a drafting owner across states, collaborating with Compliance, Product, and Claims.

You’ll build reusable language, establish standards, train teams, and review AI-assisted drafts for regulatory accuracy, helping Kin scale responsibly while protecting customers.

Qualifications

• JD required with 5+ years in policy form drafting.
• Experience drafting personal lines policy forms for multiple states.
• Ability to read state statutes and translate requirements into policy language.
• Experience drafting responses to regulator objections on form filings.
• Advising internal partners on coverage interpretation.
• Track record of developing complete forms packages independently.
• Experience reviewing AI-assisted drafts for regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Research state statutes and translate into compliant policy wording.
• Draft responses to DOI objections and advocate for Kin's position on form wording with regulators.
• Provide legal advice on coverage interpretation to internal partners.
• Draft complete state and product forms packages for your line of business.
• Perform first-pass legal review of forms drafted within the Forms team, and elevate novel state law questions.
• Build and maintain the countrywide base forms and reusable state kit for your line.
• Establish drafting standards and reusable language for faster state package production.
• Design and deliver internal training on policy forms, coverage interpretation, and regulatory expectations.
• Serve as the backup drafter for the other line of business.
• Identify legal risks in proposed product designs or coverage changes early.
• Review AI-assisted drafts and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain and update forms in response to statutes and DOI bulletins.
