Job summary

Signature Performance, Inc. seeks an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for complex inpatient discharges in an academic medical center setting.

You will leverage clinical knowledge, case mix logic, and CDI input to ensure accurate diagnoses and procedures. You will review provider notes, apply POA values, and use 3M 360 CAC for efficient coding while supporting discharge disposition decisions and MS-DRG/APR DRG accuracy.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years' experience in an Academic Medical Center with inpatient coding experience.
• Current CCS, CIC, RHIA, or RHIT certification.
• Excellent computer and communication skills for provider and staff interactions.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
• Ability to understand and follow client SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for complex inpatient discharges.
• Assign POA values for secondary diagnoses for quality metrics and reporting.
• Review provider notes and CDI input to ensure accurate coding.
• Utilize 3M 360 CAC to review documentation and code using autosuggestion/annotation.
• Review discharge planning docs to validate discharge disposition for Medicare policies.
• Sequence codes within top 24 fields using MS-DRG/APR DRG conventions for reimbursement.
• Collaborate with CDI on discharges regarding MS/APR DRG and comorbidity diagnoses.
• Educate CDI on regulatory guidelines, Coding Clinics, and conventions.
• Determine principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures from health records.
• Follow ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines and Coding Clinic guidance.
• Write appeal letters for payor DRG downgrades.
• Resolve Nosology messages and Coding Validation warnings.
• Meet coding productivity and quality standards.
