Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder to review complex inpatient documentation and assign diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS. You will ensure compliant code selection and support high-value cases across multiple service lines.

The role requires 7 years of inpatient coding experience, AHIMA/AAPC certification, and strong knowledge of coding guidelines. Excellent analytical and communication skills are essential for cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of ICD, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Excellent computer skills including MS Office and email; familiarity with coding systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organization, prioritization and reading comprehension.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Reviews complex inpatient documentation to assign diagnosis and procedures using ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS.
• Ensures correct code selection following Official Coding Guidelines and regulations.
• Adheres to departmental policies to ensure efficient workflows.
• Codes high-dollar and long-stay cases for all patient types.
• Acts as subject matter expert to coding department leaders and peers.
• Recommends policy and procedure updates to align with government regulations.
• Maintains continuing education through webinars and coding updates.
• Collaborates with CDI and Quality teams to reconcile DRGs.
