Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a full-time Inpatient Coder to review complex inpatient documentation and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes. The role requires AHIMA or AAPC certification and an associate degree in health information management, with about seven years of inpatient coding experience in a tertiary facility.

Responsibilities include ensuring accurate code selection, maintaining productivity and compliance, collaborating with CDI and quality teams, and supporting DRG alignment

Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency of ICD, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and email.
• Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Reviews complex inpatient documentation to assign diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS.
• Ensures correct code selection following Official Coding Guidelines and regulations.
• Maintains productivity standards and confidentiality of patient records.
• Codes high-dollar and long-stay cases for all patient types.
• Acts as subject matter expert to Coding department leaders and peers.
