Job summary

Affirm's Data and Storage Services team builds and operates data platforms across OLTP and OLAP systems, enabling scalable data tooling and semantic layer infrastructure. You will help make data access secure, reliable, and self-service for engineers.

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will design core platform features, governance, and incident response while collaborating across security, infrastructure, and product teams in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a cloud analytical data platform (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) with governance and cost optimization.
• Experience building and operating containerized applications and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience building internal platforms and self-service infrastructure for engineers.
• Experience integrating systems via REST APIs, OAuth/OIDC, and secrets management.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for platform services.
• Strong operational instincts, incident response, and runbook creation.
• Interest in semantic layer design and AI-native data tooling.
• Excellent written and verbal collaboration across security, infra, and product teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate core platform capabilities for data applications at scale, including provisioning, deploy pipelines, access control, and reliability tooling.
• Develop integrations between the platform and internal systems (CI/CD, secrets, external APIs, event hooks).
• Strengthen data access and governance with RBAC, managed schemas, masking, and cross-database grants.
• Automate toil via self-service tooling for provisioning, failures, service health, and secrets management.
• Improve observability with telemetry, alerts, logs, and runbooks to reduce blast radius.
• Participate in on-call coverage and platform-level maintenance with care for users and workflows.
• Contribute to the platform roadmap (semantic layer, AI-ready tooling).
• Set high standards in code reviews, design, and incident follow-through.
