Job summary

Affirm is hiring a Data Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate core data platform capabilities across analytics, BI, and governance. You will enable engineers to deploy data apps at scale, ensure secure access, and improve reliability with self‑service tooling.

Collaborating with security, infra, and product teams, you will reduce toil, handle on‑call incidents, and contribute to a roadmap for semantic layer infrastructure and AI‑ready data tooling. Affirm is a remote‑first company.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a cloud analytical data platform (Snowflake/Databricks/BigQuery), with governance and cost optimization.
• Experience building and operating containerized apps with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience building internal platforms and developer tooling to increase engineer productivity.
• Comfort building REST APIs, OAuth/OIDC, secrets management, and identity patterns in a managed cloud environment.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for reliable platform services.
• Strong operational instincts: runbooks, alerts, on-call, and root-cause analysis.
• Familiarity with semantic layer design and AI tooling intersecting data infrastructure.
• Strong written and verbal communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement platform features to enable engineers to build, deploy, and operate data applications at scale.
• Build and maintain integrations between the platform and internal systems such as CI/CD pipelines and secret management.
• Design secure data access patterns and governance for platform analytics infrastructure.
• Identify and automate recurring toil to enable self-service for platform users.
• Improve observability, telemetry, and incident response for platform services.
• Participate in on-call coverage and platform maintenance with care for affected workflows.
• Contribute to the roadmap for semantic layer infrastructure and AI-native tooling.
• Uphold high standards in code reviews, design, and incident follow-through.
