Job summary

Affirm is building a data platform at scale to power its buy-now-pay-later ecosystem. This role focuses on the platform and applications layer, enabling teams to work with data across OLTP and OLAP.

You will contribute to reliability, self-service capabilities, and the roadmap toward agentic data tooling and semantic layer infrastructure. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with cloud analytical platforms, containerized deployments, and developer tooling.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a cloud analytical data platform with governance, masking, and cost control.
• Experience building internal platforms or self-service infrastructure for engineers.
• Comfort with REST APIs, OAuth/OIDC, and secret management in a managed cloud.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for platform services.
• Strong operational instincts: runbooks, alerts, on-call, and post-incident analysis.
• Familiarity with semantic layers, LLM-integrated workflows, and AI tooling.
• Effective cross-team communication across security, infra, and developers.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate core platform capabilities for data apps at scale.
• Build integrations with CI/CD, identity, and external APIs for self-service access.
• Strengthen data access and governance with RBAC and secure views.
• Automate toil and build self-service tooling for platform users.
• Improve observability, telemetry, and incident response with runbooks.
• Support platform operations including on-call coverage and maintenance.
• Contribute to the roadmap for semantic layer infrastructure and AI-ready tooling.
• Raise engineering standards in code reviews and operational readiness.
