Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a BESS Engineer III to design, implement, and optimize battery energy storage systems. You will provide technical direction, lead multi-discipline design teams, and review feasibility studies and configurations. The role is fully remote, with discussions on location during interviews.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate with AHJs, manage procurement oversight, and contribute to business development while staying current with standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 3+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of BESS including lithium-ion, inverters, BMS, and grid interconnection equipment.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD) and simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, and utility standards.
• Understanding of grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
• Understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Understanding of SCADA/EMS communication protocols (IEC 61850).
• Project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, risk management.
• Understanding EPC workflows and coordination with engineering partners.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• PE license preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam with trackers.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes, guiding project teams.
• Lead design and engineering of BESS, ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies and sizing analyses for optimal BESS configurations.
• Contribute as senior technical expert across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV scopes.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party partners for timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and AHJs.
• Develop and review technical specs, drawings, and documentation for BESS components.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement including vendor reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation to optimize performance and reliability.
• Support construction with field issue resolution and design clarifications.
• Support testing, validation, energization, and initial synchronization.
• Mentor junior engineers and project teams on BESS principles.
• Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Support business development through proposals and technical consultations.
• Represent SOLV Engineering in client meetings.
• Participate in regular team meetings/calls.
• Travel as required to support project execution.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
