Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a BESS Engineer III to lead the design, development, implementation, and optimization of battery energy storage projects. This fully remote role offers strategic technical direction, and oversight to ensure performance, reliability, and safety.

The candidate will serve as SME across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV scopes, mentor junior engineers, and support business development with proposals and technical consultations. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's preferred.
• 3+ years in electrical engineering focused on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Experience designing, integrating, and optimizing BESS with Li-ion, inverters, BMS, and interconnection equipment.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis tools (PSS/E, PSCAD).
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards.
• Understanding of grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC 841, IEEE 1547).
• Understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Experience with SCADA/EMS communication protocols (IEC 61850).
• Project management including budgeting, scheduling, risk management.
• Familiarity with EPC workflows and coordination with partners.
• PE license preferred.
• Able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, Bluebeam; maintain trackers/logs.
• Commitment to safety, quality, sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering; guide project teams.
• Lead design and engineering of BESS; ensure contract/compliance.
• Review feasibility/site assessments; recommend configurations.
• Mentor junior engineers; share lessons learned.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement; vendor drawing reviews.
• Support testing, commissioning, energization, synchronization.
• Travel as required.
• Stay current with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
