Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a BESS Engineer III to design, develop, implement and optimize battery energy storage systems. This role provides technical direction across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA and HV scopes, leading Engineers of Record and partners to deliver projects safely and efficiently.

The position is fully remote with travel as needed, offering opportunity to influence system performance, reliability and safety across utility-scale projects nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 3+ years electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD) and simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA standards.
• Understanding of grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
• Fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Experience with EPC workflows, design deliverables, submittals, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering and provide guidance to project teams.
• Lead the design and engineering of BESS, ensuring compliance with contracts and AHJ requirements.
• Review studies and sizing analyses to recommend configurations and augmentation provisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and manage Engineers of Record and partners.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and AHJs.
• Develop and review technical specs, drawings and procurement docs for BESS components.
• Provide oversight during procurement including vendor reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors and contractors to design, procure, install and commission BESS.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation and analysis to optimize performance.
• Support construction with field issue resolution and design clarifications.
• Assist testing, validation, commissioning and energization.
• Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes.
• Support business development with proposals and technical consultations.
