Job summary

Rula is a remote-first healthcare tech company redefining how patients access mental health services in the United States. We seek a Staff Software Engineer to join the Patient Onboarding team, leading complex initiatives from onboarding through registration, insurance verification, and starting care.

You will be a hands-on technical leader who writes code and provides direction to accelerate delivery across product areas, partnering with Product, Design, and Analytics to improve the patient

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with Staff-level scope or leading complex initiatives across multiple teams.
• Strong full-stack engineering experience building and maintaining production web applications, with depth in modern frontend frameworks, backend APIs, data modeling, and distributed systems.
• Experience leading technically complex projects from problem definition through design, implementation, launch, and production support.
• Experience working on high-impact user journeys such as onboarding, checkout, registration, eligibility, payments, marketplaces, or other conversion-critical workflows.
• Experience influencing technical direction across functions or teams, including communicating tradeoffs and driving alignment with Product, Design, Data, or other engineering teams.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted software development tools (such as Claude Code) as part of regular engineering workflows.

• Own and lead the Staff-level engineering initiatives for patient onboarding journeys and care initiation.
• Provide technical direction across product areas, collaborating with Product, Design, and Data to shape scalable, reliable systems.
