Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Senior Patient Financial Clearance Representative to ensure accurate patient registration, verify insurance eligibility, and collect co-pays when applicable. The role includes real-time training and guidance for new staff.

The Senior representative will manage demographic and payer data, confirm current plan benefits before visits, and navigate multiple systems (EPIC, billing platforms) to maintain data integrity.

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a health care setting.
• Experience with commercial, managed care and governmental health insurance plans.
• One (1) year experience in insurance plan authorization and referral requirements; or medical billing.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications (Windows, MS Office) and EPIC systems.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with patients, clinical staff, and providers to manage service postponements due to eligibility/benefits.
• Prioritize and coordinate patient accounts to complete demographic, payer and visit data before appointments.
• Update EPIC registrations following established policies and procedures.
• Verify plan eligibilities and benefits prior to outpatient visits.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to new representatives and support staff.
