Job summary

VCUHS is seeking a Senior Patient Financial Clearance Representative to ensure accurate patient data, verify insurance eligibility, and support financial clearance for outpatient visits. The role emphasizes accuracy, customer service, and collaboration with clinical staff across a health system.

The position requires 3+ years in healthcare billing/registration and 1+ year in plan authorization, with experience in EPIC systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a health care setting, including exposure to commercial, managed care and governmental health insurance plans.
• At least 1 year of experience in insurance plan authorization and referral requirements, or medical billing.
• Proficient with personal computer and various software applications (Microsoft Office, email, etc.).
• Strong customer service skills and a patient-centered approach; demonstrates cultural responsiveness.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with patients, clinical staff, and providers to coordinate eligibility and benefits before services.
• Prioritize and complete patient demographic, payer, and visit data for appointments; resolve data gaps.
• Update EPIC or equivalent registration systems accurately per policy; ensure data integrity.
• Confirm eligibility and benefits prior to outpatient visits using online tools and payer sites; contact patients if needed to obtain missing data.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to new representatives and support training initiatives.
