Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Patient Financial Clearance Senior to ensure accurate patient information and verify insurance eligibility for upcoming visits. The role involves data entry in EPIC, coordinating payer data, and guiding patients through the clearance process.

The Senior is expected to train new representatives, troubleshoot issues, and support financial counseling as needed. A strong customer service orientation and healthcare experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a health care setting.
• Experience with commercial, managed care and governmental health insurance plans.
• One (1) year experience in insurance plan authorization and referral requirements; or medical billing.

Responsibilities

• Communicates effectively with patients, clinical staff, and providers when postponement of services is necessary due to lack of eligibility or benefits.
• Prioritizes and coordinates patient accounts requiring completion of demographic, third party payer and visit data prior to the appointment date.
• Validates and updates registration data in the EPIC system according to policies.
• Confirms eligibility and benefits of current health plans before outpatient visits.
• Contacts patients by phone, portal, email, or mail to obtain or update health plan data.
