Job summary

FNTS, a managed IT services provider, seeks a Sr. IBM iSeries Engineer to maintain IBM i environments and lead migration efforts via tape save/restore or replication. The role emphasizes strong problem solving, collaboration with customers, and proactive system management.

You will work remotely from anywhere in the US, with no sponsorship available, and participate in initiatives spanning DR planning, OS upgrades, and automated monitoring to support our customers’ IBM i workloads.

Qualifications

• IBM iSeries System Administration (10+ years)
• Knowledge of i/OS from V5R4 to V7R3 and major differentiators
• POWER systems hardware understanding
• Experience configuring LPARs using HMC
• Experience with JBOD, RAID, SAN storage and performance differences
• Experience defining and troubleshooting printers
• Experience TCP/IP and servers in IPv4 environment
• Understanding of journal management
• Software-based replication (MIMIX, iTera, PowerHA)
• BRMS backup solutions for migration
• Familiarity with tape library configuration/implementation
• OS upgrades, PTF deployment and software installation via Image Catalog
• Experience with performance tools (MPG)
• Experience deploying automation/monitoring tools (Halcyon, absMessage, Robot)
• Experience coding/debugging CL
• Independent work ability
• Excellent communication (written, verbal)
• Knowledge of AV/AR, web query, Flash Copy, Global Mirror

Responsibilities

• Respond to incidents and requests with in-depth analysis and solutions meeting SLAs
• Proactively review issues to avoid future problems as part of Continuous Improvement
• Perform reporting functions as required by customer
• Plan and perform DR testing/planning, OS upgrades, PTF deployment
• Maintain IBM i OS and LPP configurations
• Write and maintain system documentation
• Assist migration to FNTS or remote management setup
• Contribute to roadmap with new hardware and OS capabilities including Live Partition Mobility
• Install OS & major subsystem releases with customer timing/testing
• Maintain golden/sandbox templates
• Serve as IBM i SME in technical infrastructure projects
